Comprehensive Cancer Care

Cancer is a complex disease characterised by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body. It can develop in any part of the body and may spread to other areas, causing serious health complications. There are over 100 different types of cancer, each with its own set of risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options.

Risk factors for cancer include genetic predisposition, environmental factors such as exposure to carcinogens like tobacco smoke or ultraviolet radiation, lifestyle factors such as poor diet and lack of physical activity, and certain infections such as hepatitis B or human papillomavirus (HPV).

Symptoms of cancer vary depending on the type and location of the tumour but may include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, lumps or masses, changes in bowel or bladder habits, persistent cough or hoarseness, and unexplained pain.

Treatment for cancer often involves a combination of approaches, including surgery to remove tumours, chemotherapy to kill cancer cells, radiation therapy to target and destroy cancer cells, immunotherapy to boost the body's immune response against cancer, targeted therapy to block specific molecules involved in cancer growth, and hormone therapy to interfere with hormone receptors on cancer cells.

Early detection through regular screenings such as mammograms, pap smears, colonoscopies, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests can significantly improve treatment outcomes and survival rates for many types of cancer. Additionally, lifestyle modifications such as maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, and protecting oneself from harmful ultraviolet radiation can help reduce the risk of developing cancer.

At UCSI Hospital, we strive to be a beacon of hope for those affected by cancer, offering expertise, compassion, and unwavering support every step of the way.
